IRIDESCENCE RESEARCH LAB

The Synthesis of Sound, Space, and Image.

The Studio

Iridescence Research Lab (IRL) is a New York-based integrated scenographic design studio pioneering the medium of Spatial Cinema. Operating at the convergence of architecture, filmmaking, and music composition, the studio explores new possibilities for spatial-temporal storytelling—translating conceptual ideas into profound, felt experiences.

By approaching architecture through a cinematic lens, and treating light, sound, and space as a singular, indivisible medium, IRL executes complete environmental transformations. Through bespoke scores, real-time visuals, and architecturally sensitive, context-driven spatial curation, the studio builds immersive worlds for luxury brands, cultural institutions, and live performance.

The Director

IRL was founded and is led by Scenographer and Director Vijay Rajkumar. His work as an artist, filmmaker, and composer engages physical space and time as media for navigating memory, dreams, and emotional resonance.

Drawing from a rigorous background in design and computation, Rajkumar approaches physical space through a highly systematic and interdisciplinary lens. Born in Boston and raised between Singapore and the United States, he holds a Master of Architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), an M.A. in Computational Media & Digital Art History from Duke University, and an undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he studied Computer Science and Comparative Literature & Film.
